Greetings, Everybody.
I´m Elias from Germany, currently 24 Years old and i usually stem from a Classic Motocross/ Enduro Background
Generally i´m interested in older 2-stroke bikes, thus the Japanese twins caught my attention.
got an abandoned MC16, which i found in extremely poor condition.
The previous owner began transforming it to a Racebike (shortening the Subframe, removing lots of parts).
I´m determined to get it on the road again. collecting all the parts, i`m missing for now
(In Germany, theres basically NOTHING availlable, since the MC16s were never oficcially sold here).
Since i´m new to the NSR community, i really lack a lot of inside knowledge and hope to gain it here.
My main problem for now are the papers, which i don´t have. If anyone yould be willing to sell a MC16 Frame with papers, i were happy to buy it.
otherwise if theres an official datasheet anywhere, incluiding power@RPM, emmission, loudness data and so on, that would help me a great deal. (German regulations are a pain in the butt)
Furthermore the previous owner swapped an entire MC 18 Ignition system into the bike. I already managed to get it running, RC Valve is working.
Problem here is, that i can´t get a tachometer reading. I connected the RPM Output of the MC18 CDI (Y/GN wire) to the RPM Input of the MC16 tacho (B/Y wire).
I cannot get a reading that way. I don´t know if either the CDI or Tacho are broken or if they deal with different Signals (Voltage or PWM...)
I don´t have an oscilloscope, so i can´t measure the CDI output for PWM Signals. Measured with a Multimeter it shows about a 0,1 to 0,7 V Voltage dependent on rpm.
Hope there´s some expert here to help me. Alternatively i will have to swap an MC18 speedo into the MC16 Dash.
Oil Pump was removed by the previous owner as well. I planned on Running premix anyways (As i already do this on all my other bikes), but is there anything, i have to keep in mind when doing so?
Front Brake setup is missing. And nowhere to be found for sale. Got MC18 Rotors and CBR1000 Calipers, which i will have to mill the mounts for myself.
(Studied Mechanical engineering, so designing and manufacturing custom parts is always manageable)
Parts i´d like to buy:
Mirrors
Front Brake setup
front and rear fenders
Front center cowling
speedometer cable
passenger seat and footpegs
Rear cover (Behind passenger seat)
alternatively single seat conversion cover
stock subframe
(frame) with papers
headlight assembly
I will attach some pictures of my Project, so you can see, what rough shape she´s in.
Sorry for the mess in the garage. Just moved in there and it´s not a lot of space
I´m Happy to have joined the NSRWorld community and together we´ll get her back on the road again.
Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for knowledge I would say that this website has just about everything you will need to know. I wouldn't say parts are readily available but parts in the UK are easier to get.
"Oil Pump was removed", generally you'll need a bigger jet but I assume you know this already if you run pre mix already on all your bikes.
"Front Brake setup is missing" you can buy brembos from Japan but that's an expensive route, ask me how I know. Someone may have brakes for sale here.
As I previously mentioned, our Honda approved '87-'93 English Service Manual in the Members' Content area would be a great place to start. (Click "non Flash version" link for the manual.) 1-22 (Section 1, page 22 (page 30 of our manual) shows the MC16 wiring diagram. You will need to ascertain whether you have an '88 or '89 MC18 ignition though, as they differ significantly.
eBay in the UK is probably your best source for MC16 parts. There are often quite a few spares advertised on there, or you can always try somewhere like buyee.jp or jauce.com to buy from Yahoo! Auctions, but it can be rather expensive, and there may be items that they are not willing to ship. (Shock absorbers are a favourite... shipping companies don't like to send items filled with oil/gas.) Altenatively, I can put you in touch with an agent in Japan who I, and a couple of other forum members have used, if you PM me. (I may be a bit slow to answer any PM's at the moment, as I am away abroad, and not on the forum much right now.)
There is actually an MC16 frame with NOVA (importation) document for sale on eBay right now, and I think [although someone else will have to confirm] that CBR400 NC19/NC23 front calipers are the same as MC16, and you can find those easily on eBay too. In fact, there's a LHS and RHS caliper on there now at £20 each. Again, someone else will need to step in and help you out as to whether they are actually interchangeable though. _________________ Andy.

Hey everyone, quick update on my resurection Project.
So progress is going quite slow.
Curently dedication is focused on my bachelor thesis. This will be finished by the end of april, after that the honda will receive much more love.
Made some progress nevertheless, managed to source a lot of parts.
Shift lever and Brake caliper holders were designed and machined from billet aluminium (left caliper holder is currently being manufactured)
New tires were fitted with MC 18 front rotors.
Would love to Fit MC18 Front calipers some time (i just love the "Overkillness" of the 4 Piston design) . I would need to fit MC18 forks as well.
I would still like to keep the MC16 Three Spoke wheel.. If anyone has done a simmilar swap before, feel free to let me know, what to watch out for.
I really love the patina of the plastics and the fuel tank. (My style of restauration isn´t showroom optics, i like to know, the bike is almost 40 years old)
Aluminum parts, such as swingarm, frame, Fork bottoms and so on will be refinished nevertheless, as soon as i have the time.
For now, completing the bike and getting it registered is the focus.
I still cant get the MC16 Tacho to communicate with the PGM II Unit. Just doesn´t reed an RPM output.
As mentioned before, if there are any electronics experts here, i would be really greatful for any Intel.
Also stuggling to find a mounting point for PGM II unit as this is way bigger, than the stock mc16 ECUs
MC18 RC Servo doesn´t fit in the stock MC 16 wiring tray..
I´m struggling fo find pictures of the stock mounting brackets for coils and solenoids
Parts I´m still missing (cant find on the Internet)
MC16 Clutch Cable
MC16 Speedo Cable
MC16 Toolbox Cover
MC16 center Cowling (Will have to manufacture it from Sheet Aluminium otherwise; anticipating painfull work)
MC18 Tacho (should be cheap. Just for testing purposes. poor condition welcomed
Bachelor Thesis done. Found a suiting workplace, so money and time for the project will be a lot more manageable from now on.
First test drive of my NSR is right arround the Corner.
only thing holding me off, is the air correction circuit.
As mentioned before, my mc 16 was fitted with an entire MC 18 (PGM-II) ignition setup, along with the corresponding carbs and air correction circuit.
I sourced some solenoids from france and 3d printed a mount for those.
Started plumbing the hoses last weekend.
At first i thought, the connecting pieces in the hoses were mere connectors. upon some research quickly found out, they have jets in them.
I can´t find the stock connecting pieces anywhere for sale. so i´m simply going to use connectors and machine some inline jets for the hoses themselves.
I just can´t find a propper schematic of where in the connectors which jets belong.
Would be amazing, if anyone here had some information to share.
Also i´m still somewhat confused, what the main differences betwheen the MC16 and MC18 engines are.
If anyone has some information about my MC16 engine/ MC18 ignition, MC18 RC servo and MC18 carbs combination, feel free to let me know.
I´m going to incluide my schematic, of how i understand the plumbing.
would be amazing, if anyone could verify it or correct my.
I´m quite sure, i managed, to get something confused.
