Why do people get so upset when their particular deity is slandered? If he's god, can't he stick up for himself. No use getting upset, it's not like your favourite football team has been slandered. Can we keep the god nonsense in church and off the forums? It's very off-topic.
I put forth the motion that we have god related posts (including this one) removed by admin.
Enough everyone.
All opinions are welcome but those opinions should be limited to NSR's. If I want to read about religious views i'll look elsewhere not on an NSR forum.
We all share one passion and that's the mighty NSR. Let's keep it that way.
Any and all irrelevant posts from now on will be deleted.
Not a problem by me , but i will pray tonight that your Gods give you wisdom to check your oil feed pipes before you seize again and give the 300 a bad name . LOL
Don't worry guys, I'll do a little chant, thank the household gods and splash holy water over my motorcycle. Hopefully this won't distract me from making sure that the oil lines haven't slipped off
I've never seen the crank before, so I don't know how long this overheating colour has been there, but maybe it happened recently when that cylinder ran dry. I'm guessing the crank is toast? Please tell me it isn't? If it is, I reserve the right to cuss.
Second question, is there a way to test the center seal with the crank as it is? I am guessing the only conclusive way is when the bike is semi-back-together My petrol leak down tests didn't show brilliant results, but still, nothing conclusive. _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. Hey bro, did you see the thread recently where they explained the colouring is all related to Honda's manufacturing process and isn't an indication of problems like overheating?
You've really gotta make up a leak down testing kit and do it with the engine built. The pressure gauge (such as the one on my setup) will tell you immediately if air is getting out anywhere such as through the center seal. You can see which way the leak is going too - if you read/look through my previous posts and photos on the job you'll see what i mean. It s a pain to put together at first i know, but once you've got the kit made, you've got it for life and its so quick and easy to put a test on after piston swaps or whatever in future. You can have total confidence of the the air tightness of your motor every time from then on. _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
Thanks for that bit of info Hermit. It's a relief that it is just from a manufacturing process. I did initially suspect that it was, until I only noticed it on the one side.
I flushed the outside bearing on the seized side of the engine with premix and I got a fair amount of fine metal particles out; no large chunks of metal came out. The bearing does seem a little noisy and dry, but I've never actually pulled a roller bearing crank before so I'm not sure what to look for. Since the center bearing is sealed I'll just have to hope no metal made its way inside.

It isn't toast, this is toast;
That's the crank from an NSR250 and those colouration marks are totally normal. If the bearings are fine, it's fine. If one of them has problems you have a decision to make.
Many years ago when I first wrecked my '28, I had a company do all the work as I knew nothing about the bikes at all. They told me the crank bearings were full of bits of plating and they washed them out.
Had I known what I know now I'd have been concerned, as it was I just ran the bike.
That crank died this summer (it's now one of Johnnymac's bikes).
So it did at least 30 trackdays, 2 race seasons and I'd guess about 5000 road miles before I sold it plus whatever the new owner did and then what Johnnymac did.
If you ever see an old post with Andy or Steve talking about a good 62bhp mc28 it's that bike.

Good to hear. I am just waiting on my cylinder to come back from the platers then I'll put it back together. I'll give the bearings another flush out but so far it's only been minute particules like you'd expect from a gearbox that's been run in.
I am wondering if I need to replace the outer seals, the workshop section seems to indicate so but they're not very old. When putting the cases together would ThreeBond 1211 be good? _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. TYGA 300 conversion.
No, it's not cheap but the amount you're saving using something else is absolutely tiny.
Can you reuse seals?
Yes.
Should you?
Well, that's up to you but no one is going to actually recommend it. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
